Industrial revolution

Why we learn today about Industrial revolution as a such important thing in History of graphic design? Because from that period of time they assume graphic design starts to become much more unique and more define.
They started in America at that period, Mass Production of large letters. Most logical thing they used for that is wood, because it was available and it has very good printing qualities. Darius Wells of New York invented the meaning of  Mass Producing letter, and also he published the first wood type catalogue in 1828.
It was so much better when they do the letters by machines which later become much more easier to use because of the invention of the lateral router. So, when they made life easier with the other machines for mass production everything had much more faster pace. Now worker served the machine, the critical eye and artistry of the craftsman were sacrificed for speed. They were feeding it with raw materials and allowing it to determine the final product.
For graphic designers and people in that time that was negative impact because they were losing their jobs.Paper makers was started to produce paper from wood pulp- creating and acidic paper prone to yellowing and foxing. With that book binding was very mechanized and cheapened.
Another important thing from the period of Industrial revolution was The Crystal Palace Exhibition. Spearheaded by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, organized a showcase of modern industrial technology and design. It was in 1851, in London. Many country came to show their accomplishments, and the exhibition was a huge success. From the critical side it was not so positive. They said that because it was all made by machines it was shoddy and poorly designed, full of superfluous ornaments which did not enhance the product.
After the unsuccessful exhibition they wanted to explain people to understand design and ornamentation so Owen Jones published an exhaustive inventory of international and historical decorative styles. The book includes twenty sections of illustrated motifs and Jones's thirty-seven Propositions on what makes good design. And it made a difference in history as it meant to do. He put new standards in chromatography, he developed innovative new binding techniques. An example from his book:
