He was unlikely from the others, academically trained artist. He was trained at Yale. His posters turn traditional color theory on its head. As he was trained in color he just did the opposite of that. Created a erotic, vivid, evocative patterned posters. Utilized hand made font, photo collage, and op art. Created ''slow read'' posters, where text was unintelligible, so the time was taken just to stare at the image and too feel all the intense colors and dazzling effect of contrast with it.
Many of his posters were displayed in rock concert halls like the Martix, Avalon Ballroom and the Fillmore. Because of the light shows in these halls and projections with strobe lights, colors from the posters would appear and dissapear in various colored lights shined upon their surface further adding to the dynamics of it and psychedelic aesthetic of the time. He did also works such as classical examples of the peak of psychedelic poster art and commercial graphic design. Changed the rule and developed the visual images into the traditional arts of the past.
